Academic Spotlight: AP Statistics with Nancy Barker
Rigorous courses at KRCS are intentionally designed to engage students and prepare them for success in college and beyond. Mrs. Barker’s AP Statistics students kicked off a new unit on randomness, probability, and simulation. From tossing coins and rolling dice to flipping chocolate kisses to see how often they land point up, students learned how unpredictable probability can be in the short run.
Using technology, they also explored the Law of Large Numbers with a free throw simulation that showed how powerful computer models can be when real experiments are not always possible.
This first of three units lays the groundwork for statistical inference and encourages critical thinking and reasoning skills that will serve students well on the AP exam and beyond!
